New Jeep® Compass 4xe goes extreme in the second episode of the Jeep Capability mini-series
The 375-hp full-electric new JeepCompass 4xe, the protagonist of the series, was presented to the media at the end of June and is open for orders across Europe
The second episode of the Jeep® capability stories takes offroad fans to the heart of Sardinia, in a natural environment populated by rocks, forests, and water streams. This breathtaking scenery sees the thrilling adventures of the new JeepCompass 4xe in the wilderness.
New Jeep Compass 4xe is the latest addition to the Jeep range. It is a zero-emission, all-wheel drive C-SUV, powered by two electric drive motors which deliver 157 kW on the front and 132 kW on the rear axle. Combined power output reaches 375 hp, reaching outstanding performance levels.
Fabio Catone, Head of Jeep Brand in Enlarged Europe, said: “…Jeep always develops the best-in-class 4×4 version for every model in its range. This is because we believe offroad is a way of life, a way to chart your own journey and to find the path that suits you best. Our ‘offroad DNA’ is what defines us as a brand, and makes our vehicles the ultimate expression of freedom and closeness to nature.”
New Jeep Compass 4xe:
the champion of offroad prowess in the new Compass line-up
Compared to the rest of the Compass range, the new 4xe version features 10 mm higher ride height for improved ground clearance. This translates into class-leading offroad performance: 28° approach angle, 17° breakover angle, 31° departure angle, up to 480 mm water-fording depth.
The dual motor architecture ensures outstanding traction. New Jeep Compass 4xe delivers up to 3,100 Nm at the rear wheels thanks to the coupling of the rear motor to a 14:1 reductor. This provides maximum drive in the most challenging situations – and the ability to climb a 20% gradient with zero grip on the front wheels.
The exclusive new Jeep Compass 4xe Selec-Terrain:
a specific mode for each driving situation
The 4xe Selec-Terrain system always keeps the driver in full control.
On the new Jeep Compass 4xe, five driving modes are available to face all routes, surfaces, and weather conditions – from everyday to extreme: AUTO, SPORT, SAND & MUD, SNOW and 4WD LOCK. Driving modes further contribute to Compass 4xe unparalleled capability.
4WD LOCK for rocky and crumbling terrains:
when precision control makes the difference
When extreme offroad drivers tackle low-grip uphill trails, or climb rock slabs, pinpoint precision is essential to enjoy the challenge in full safety.
The 4WD LOCK engages traction on both axles for permanent AWD behavior, ideal for offroad trails ranging from mountain paths to ups and downs on gravel trails. The power transfer unit ensures immediate torque availability to the rear axle, enhancing both responsiveness and accuracy. ESP and traction control systems are set with balanced slip thresholds, in order to guarantee the best drive-off on unpaved roads.
The system features a unique speed-based pre-control strategy that allows for optimal acceleration, deceleration and torque distribution. The ultra-precise e-Motor speed controller can detect and control wheel slip in real time, adjust torque to changes in dynamic weight and surfaces, and dampen driveline oscillation.
Driver’s comment after testing: “4WD LOCK mode allows for precise management of the massive 3,100 Nm of wheels torque. With the 4WD LOCK function engaged, you can climb slippery trails and tackle incredible slopes even when starting from a standstill – all this while maintaining full control of the vehicle, right down to the slightest adjustments.”
