Audi is hard working to ready its supermini A1 which is scheduled for a presentation later this year. Our spies caught the car undergoing heat tests in southern Europe \u2013 and the car is here seen basically undisguised. Different from today, the car will be available in five-door \u201cSportback\u201d guise only. The three-door model will be ditched and all-electric or even only plugin-hybrid variants will not be offered either. Only a mild-hybrid will be available which leads electric power to various aggregates but cannot be used for emission-free driving.<\/p>

All in all the car will be more elegant, more adult in a way, with a wider and lower stance and a more muscular front end and slightly longer wheelbase. The new A1 will be based on the lighter and stiffer MQ platform and will be given an adaptive chassis and improved LED lights all around. Different from today, all-wheel drive will be available for models below the S1 (to which it is exclusive with the current model).<\/p>\n

Out go the 1.4-litre mills, new will be a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder base engine, today\u2019s 150-hp version will be replaced by an equally powerful 1.5-litre unit. Today\u2019s 192-hp 1.8-litre TSFI will make way for a new 2-litre engine with then 200 hp which will be tuned to 250 hp in the new S1 and could even output 300 hp should Audi decide to build an RS1.<\/p>\n
